Overview

A cogwheel railway is a rail-bound means of transport whose traction vehicle is not driven by means of traction, ie, friction of the wheels, but by means of gears on a rack. As a result, slopes can be overcome that would not be able to be overcome in pure adhesion operation. We manufacture models of a few cogwheel railway lines and expand our range of models and accessories, as well as our track system continuously.

FERRO-TRAIN cog railway locomotives operate on 12 V DC. As the original, they move by rack and pinion drive on the rack rail. The high gear reduction of 1:256 ensures traction true to prototype. A FERRO-TRAIN cog railway locomotive can climb grades up to 250 OO/O (1:4) and negotiated 300 mm radius curves. As the prototype on the Schneeberg, the loco can push 2 coaches up those grades. The usual incline, however, is 170 OO/O to 250 OO/O.
